What is Amanda doing?

Hello Clarkies,
So a fellow Clarkie friend of mine, Amanda Palmer, is studying abroad in London, working at AKA!!!
Here is what she had to say about her internship...

"Hi! I’m Amanda, and I’m a junior at Clark currently studying in London! I’m working at AKA, like Shaun did last semester. I’m working in the Client Services department, which is basically the main liaison between the client (the show) and the company. I’m working mainly on Sweeney Todd, which is coming back to the West End a week from Saturday. So clearly we have a lot to be getting on with at the moment. Right now, we’re basically just doing last minute hardcore promotions. The posters are all over London, and the artwork has gone up on the outside of the theatre. I’m mainly trying to keep the existing print advertisements organized and under control and providing a helping hand to the main Sweeney Client Services team wherever they need it. I also do a little work here and there on Jersey Boys, since that’s my main supervisor Anna’s other big show. That mostly involves recording comped tickets, meaning tickets that were given away either for promotional or company purposes, and running errands to the JB theatre, which is just two blocks away from the office.
It’s really great to work in the heart of London and to be so close to such a busy industry. Not to mention the perk of free tickets. I saw Shrek last night, and it was amazing. I’m really enjoying the job and seeing how the company works, especially now that I’m settled into a routine."

Seems like Amanda is loving life! I am super jealous!

Memory Lane Episode 2: First days in London

I will always remember my first days in London. Everything was so surreal, fresh, and new. Although the big city was overwhelming, within a couple hours the red buses and pubs on every street corner soon made me feel like I was at home.

One of my favorite stories when I first got to London involved Diego and I venturing to a park. One sunny day, we went to Regents park to nap and relax. We drifted into our sleeps, and woke up to 20 or so Italians having a picnic around us. Being extremely confused, we kind of just stared at them for a few minutes, until they realized how confused we were. Instead of ignoring us, or asking us to move, they asked us to join! We spent the entire day eating Italian food and drinking fantastic wine. The people we met that day became great friends of ours, and we shared some great memories with them on our entire trip.

This story really encompasses the greatness of a place like London. There are people from all over the world who are all willing to converse and unite into one metropolitan family.
Enjoy the pics!

Memory Lane Episode 1

Hello Clarkies,
While working on some videos I decided to start a new chain of posts for my blog.
These will be called the "memory lane" posts.
I will be taking you through my studying abroad journey with photos and stories...I hope you enjoy.

So, about two weeks before my program actually started, me and my two fellow Clarkie best friends decided to backpack through Italy.

We went to Milan, Lago d' Como, Verona, Venice, Tuscany, Cinque Terra, and Rome.

Prior to the Italy Trip, we spent a day in London preparing for our incredible trip!

Hope you like the pictures!

Classes this semester...

Hey Clarkies,
So I thought it would be cool to show you what classes I am taking this semester and how they relate to my experiences in London.

1. Intro to Film Photography
-My Modern Art class in London at Birkbeck introduced me to the photographer Brassai wo was most famous for his photographs of the Parisian nightlife during the 1930s. I fell in love with photography while in London so I thought I would try it out now.

2. Strategic Speaking
-My internship made me realize that speaking is one of the most important features to a career. If you are a great speaker, your capabilities within your career can be more accessible than if you are a poor speaker. I hope to gain more speaking skills for mu future with this course.

3. Video Production
-Again, my Modern Art class got me extremely interested in art in general. I wanted to test my artistic capabilities through video.

4. Social Problems: Claims and Media
-My British Media and Forms class looked at the importance of media in regards to society and culture.

I am working on some more study abroad videos of other students...posts should be coming soon!
